PLUS: Alexa tries again, ChatGPT on Wiki steroids and AI inside our brains

Caio bella,
Feeling overwhelmed with AI updates that are moving faster than you can type Chat G-P-T??
We go through ElevenLabs, there’s more big news from Google, and dive into why rights for AI might now be a bad thing.
Let’s go!
🗞 News in 30 secs’
👨🚒 ‘Godfather of AI’ quits Google with regrets and fears about his work
Geoffrey “Godfathers of AI” Hinton has quit google. Hinton worries about misinformation but also about the potential long-term consequences of AI. More to come from Geoff, but nothing we haven’t heard before so far.
🤖 “Alexa, play All I do is Win by DJ Khaled”
In the latest earnings call, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy revealed plans to develop a more “generalised and capable” LLM to power Alexa. With recent headlines about Alexa being a $10bn failure, it’d be easy to forget the edge that it still has over it’s competitors - hardware, hundreds of thousands of established partners and millions of users.
💭 AI inside our brain.
Apologies for the clickbait here but it’s true. AI has now been able to turn thoughts into text. A study found that AI was able to translate subjects thoughts into text, when running through a story. I WANT MY DREAMS TRANSLATED.
🇮🇹 Chiacchierata Generative Trasformatore pre-addestrato
Italian data-protection authority Garante restores ChatGPT in the country. Initial privacy concerns have been “addressed and clarified.” New measures to verify age (13+) and a process to object its use of personal data to train its models have been added.
🗳 ChatGPT now has access to wikipedia. We’re doomed.
With the plugins functionality of OpenAI, this dude cooly incorporated all of wikipedia into ChatGPT. I can hear the uni students rejoicing.
Gonzalez vs Google - What’s going on.
When most people who ain’t lawyers are asked to choose their favourite court case. They’re going to choose the big ones.
The landmark cases that shape parts of our world. “OJ Simpson”, “Roe v Wade” or “Vardy vs Rooney’.
Well, the next one is happening right now.
So let’s dive in. It’s a US supreme court for context btw.
Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act means that online platforms like Facebook or Google are not responsible for the user generated content. Even when it’s harmful.
Lot’s of interesting developments going on there, yes.
But where’s the 🧃 juice?
Well a judge in that case also said that:
“Artificial intelligence generates poetry… And that is not protected. Let’s assume that’s right.”
On one hand you have this statement, but on the other you’ve got ChatGPT acing Bar exams, MCAT tests and more, it’s hard to fully argue that Large learning models are not actually capable of writing poetry.
Or creating inventions and getting a patent.
Or writing a Movie and getting producing credits.
This is actually being suggested now by lots of leading scholars, and that not only can AI get rights and create poetry, but also it should get legal protections when it does that.
like, y’know Freedom of Speech
Yes.
Freedom of Speech for AI. Kinda.
So the AI code, the output and the prompts are definitely all kinds of speech. Code is text written by the programmer, prompts are the wishes of the user and the output is a manifestation of what a chatGPT user wants to share.
Should this kind of text be protected?
Well by default, in the US…Yes. All speech is unless it’s part of a certain class like defamation, true threats, or incitement to imminent lawless action.
Sure. I can generate an image on Dall-e of my co-author breaking into my car and post it online..but I can do that with photoshop. That’s not reason enough to say flat out.
No Freedom of Speech for AI.
Or maybe Freedom of Speech for AI, protected by AI is what we' should actually be aiming for.
AI is already being trained to detect AI or detect when human likeness are used in text-to-image creations.
We’ll keep you posted.
What’s Appnin’ 🎮

A company that helps creators get dubs in whatever language they want in an effective and quick way.
He hires a large team of translators and the best voice actors to dub his Youtube content so that his content can be repurposed multiple times for new global audiences.
With ElevenLab’s hyper realistic text-to-speech AI software, anyone can now do this to 8 languages and it’s no longer reserved for the top content creators.
Introducing Eleven Multilingual v1: Our New Speech Synthesis Model!
